Lisa Ann Keane was born on January 28, 1961 to Donald and Irmine (Mahlberg) Keane in Harlan, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Panama and attended school at St. Mary’s before graduating from Harlan Community High School with the Class of 1979. She graduated from Briar Cliff College with her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983 and earned her Juris Doctor in May of 1991 from Creighton University School of Law. While attending school, Lisa worked as a Juvenile Probation Officer and a Juvenile Intake Officer for the State of Nebraska and Douglas County.
After graduating, Lisa became an Assistant Public Defender for the Douglas County Public Defender’s office in Omaha, Nebraska. This is where she met Rob Schartz. Lisa and Rob were married on October 24, 1998 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Panama, Iowa. They became parents to two daughters: Emma and Abby.
In 2000, Lisa accepted a position at Preferred Professional Insurance Company in Omaha. She worked as a Claims Attorney handling medical malpractice claims throughout the United States, rising to the level of Director of Claims. Lisa earned the friendship and respect of medical professionals and attorneys across the country. She became an integral part of PPIC claims operations.
Lisa loved to travel to Okoboji and Colorado with her family and looked forward to going to Florida with her girls for Spring Break. Most importantly, she always loved coming back to Panama to visit with family and friends.
Lisa died on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of fifty-four years, eight months, and fourteen days. She was preceded in death by her mother, sister Mary Lou, and brother Mark.
She is survived by her husband Rob Schartz of Omaha, Nebraska; daughters Emma and Abby Schartz of Omaha; father Donald Keane of Panama, Iowa; brothers and sisters: Jim Keane and his wife Jean of Panama, Peg and her husband Mike Hawkins of Omaha, Cindy and her husband Randy Hodapp of Littleton, Colorado, Joseph Keane and his wife Betty of Defiance, Iowa, Larry Keane of Panama, and sister Janet and her husband John Henscheid of Westphalia, Iowa; sister-in-law Kelly Keane of Panama; many other family members; and innumerable friends.
