He received his education in the rural school near his home, and worked with his father and brothers on the family farm. He and his brothers were very mechanically minded and could “fix anything”. They also built a full sized tractor which they used around the farm. Lloyd worked for a short time at the Malloy Seed Corn Co. at Westside, Iowa. Lloyd served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1945. He served in Italy earning the rank of Corporal and was involved in very intense combat. Lloyd began attending Sunday School and church services at an early age at the Evangelical Free Church in Kiron. He was a faithful member and served in various capacities. Following the church’s closing, he attended the Arthur Free Church and later the Kiron Baptist Church which he attended as long as his health permitted. He was a member of the American Legion Post #383 of Kiron for over 70 years and was the oldest member. Lloyd was an avid gardener and flower and animal lover, and appreciated all the beauties of nature. He enjoyed wood carving and created many “Dala hoses” (a traditional symbol of Sweden) as well as other intricate items which his brother Arthur skillfully painted. He also enjoyed attending Pioneer Power Shows featuring old time farming methods - preserving history of years past. In the later years of his life, Lloyd became a close friend of the Fred Coltrain family and with their assistance and care and also that of his sister-in-law, Wilma, he was able to remain in his own home until almost 95 years of age.In April of 2014, he became a resident of Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center and in October moved to the Reed House in Denison where he passed away on January 24, 2015. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 95 years, 6 months and 4 days.He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Eileen in 1986, brother Arthur in 1999 and brother Wilbur in 2006.He is survived by his sister-in-law Wilma Anderson of Kiron, Iowa; several cousins; and close friends Fred, Marilyn, Jesse and Claudia Coltrain of Kiron, Iowa.Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, Kiron, Iowa with Pastor Bruce Kaihoi officiating. Music for the service included violinist Claudia Coltrain playing “Children of the Heavenly Father-Great is Thy Faithfulness” and “In the Garden”; and congregational hymns of “Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art” with Mrs. John W. Larson as organist. Serving as pallbearers were Bill Carlson, Jesse Coltrain, Larry Dose, Kevin Rihner, Dan Schroeder, and Curtis Larson. Burial, with Military Honors by American Legion Post 8, Denison, Iowa and American Legion Post 383, Kiron, Iowa, was at the Kiron Cemetery, Kiron, Iowa. Following the interment, everyone was invited back to the church for fellowship and a luncheon catered by Hy-Vee and assisted by the First Baptist Social Committee. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home
