Lloyd Levern Sheldahl, the third of seven children of James Levi and Amanda Almeda (Nitchals) Sheldahl, was born on June 25, 1930 in Stuart, Iowa. He attended school in Stuart and later obtained his GED. To help support his family he went to work at the age of 14 with his brother Maurice in the trucking business and later for the railroad. In 1949, he started working for the Iowa State Telephone Company in Guthrie Center, Iowa as a lineman.

In 1951, Lloyd entered the United States Army at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois. He took his basic training at Ft. Knox Kentucky, attended leadership school at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky and spent the rest of his service time at Ft. Hood, Texas serving his country honorably until 1953. In 1957, Lloyd went to technical school in Rochester, New York to become a switchman. He returned to Iowa where he worked in Harlan and 15 other communities.

In December 1961, Lloyd accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the Open Bible Church in Stuart. It was here that he met his bride to be, Martha Jane Dickson who he married on October 6, 1963. To this union, three children were born: Robert Levern, David Alan and Deborah Kay. After their marriage, Lloyd and Martha made their home in Harlan until November of 1965 when the family made their home in Avoca, Iowa. This has been his home since that time.

Over the years, Lloyd attended several technical schools to learn new equipment and he always graduated at the top of his class. He retired in 1992 having worked forty-three years for the same telephone company which changed from the Iowa State Telephone Company, United Telephone, ConTel and GTE. He also worked part time for many years with the Earling and Manilla Telephone Companies.

He has been a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Walnut, Iowa since 1968 where he was active over the years serving treasurer, usher and trustee. He enjoyed going camping and doing things with his family.

Lloyd went home to be with the Lord at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska on April 26, 2013, having attained the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 1 day. In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by his brothers: Floyd in infancy, Maurice Levi, Charles Edgar and Arthur Lewis; his sister, Julia Ellen Welker; two infant grandsons: Daniel Lloyd Sheldahl and Jonathon David Sheldahl; his sister-in-law, Vivian Irene Sheldahl and his brother-in-law, Clifford Welker.

He leaves to celebrate his life, his wife, Martha Sheldahl of Avoca, Iowa; his children; Robert Sheldahl and his wife Bonnie of Springfield, Nebraska; David Sheldahl and his wife Kathy of Arlington, Nebraksa and Deborah Sheldahl of Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren; his brother Arnold Ralph Sheldahl and his wife Velma of Menlo, Iowa; his sister-in-law Vivian Sheldahl of Boone, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
