Lois J. Bell was born at Vail, Iowa, June 4, 1927, the daughter of Rodney James and Mildred Pearl Dingman North. She was raised on the farm and received her education in the Vail Schools.On January 7, 1945, Lois was united in marriage with William L. Bell in Omaha, Nebraska. Their union was blessed with four children: Howard, Linda, Rodney “Pete” and Jay.They made their home in Omaha for a few years before moving to the farm at Vail where Lois was a busy homemaker, farmwife and mother. For many years she was bookkeeper at Cal Car Co-op and at Denison Livestock Auction Company.Bill died June 16, 1986, and following his death Lois moved from the farm into Vail in 1988.On October 20, 1992, Lois was united in marriage with Harold Eggers in Apache Junction, Arizona and he preceded her in death June 14, 1997.For over 30 years Lois enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona, first in Mesa and later Apache Junction. She will be remembered by her family as an excellent cook and a wonderful grandma, with her grandchildren especially loving her mashed potatoes. In her leisure time she enjoyed quilting, embroidery, reading, puzzle books of all kinds, playing bingo, casino trips and playing cards. She spent countless hours making porcelain dolls and giving talks and demonstrations on that craft.She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Vail, the United Presbyterian Women, a former member and Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Red Hat Society and Bunco Club.Including her parents, Rodney and Mildred North, and her husbands, William and Harold, Lois was also preceded in death by one son Rodney “Pete” Bell, one grandson Robert Bell, brother, Rodney Lorne North, brother-in-law Howard Brantz and sister-in-law, Viola North.Those remaining to cherish her memory include her children: Howard (Alice) Bell of Oswego, Kansas, Linda (Michael) Massman of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Jay (Jane) Bell of Arion, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson; sister, Carol Brantz of Council Bluffs, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2016 at United Presbyterian Church, Vail, Iowa with Rev. Richard Francis officiating. Music for the service included congregational hymns “In the Garden” and “Old Rugged Cross” with Ruth Noelck serving as organist. Pallbearers were Rodney “Peter” Bell II, Rodger Bell, Carter Weitz, Michael Weitz, Linden Weitz, Ethan Wittrock, Noah Wittrock and Gregory Ridgley. Interment was at Vail Cemetery, Vail, Iowa. Following the graveside rites and burial the family invited everyone to join them at the church for fellowship and a luncheon provided by Lidderdale Country Store and United Presbyterian Women. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home, www.pfannebecker.com , Denison, Iowa was in charge of arrangements where a visitation was held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2016 with a prayer service at 6:45 p.m.
