Lois Nadine Hildebrand, daughter of Harry E. and Viola (Peters) Jacobsen, was born on a farm east of Avoca on February 26, 1931. She attended country school outside of Avoca and later attended high school in Avoca.

On May 24, 1947, she was united in marriage to D. Doyce Hildebrand, and they were married for fifty-two years until Doyce’s death in March of 2000. They were the parents of five children: Karen, Mary, Donald, Jr., Dean and Duane.

Doyce and Lois raised their family on a farm south of Minden until 1968 when they moved to their farm southeast of Hancock on Juniper Road. After Doyce’s death, Lois moved to her condo in Oakland. In April of 2016, she then moved to Northcrest Living Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Lois loved her grandchildren and their many activities, butterflies, flowers, babies and anything that was soft or sparkled. She also enjoyed counted cross-stitch, word search puzzles and the iPad game of Bejeweled. You could often find her reading the Nonpareil or her weekly church service mailing, while enjoying a warm cup of coffee and a sweet treat. She also enjoyed listening to polka and country music.

Lois died on December 25, 2016, Christmas Day, her favorite holiday, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, having attained the age of eighty-five years, nine months and twenty-nine days. In addition to her parents and husband, Lois was preceded in death by her sons Dean and Duane(infant), and her brother Virgil Jacobsen.

She is survived by her children: Karen Hildebrand, Mary Hildebrand and Don Hildebrand and his wife Jackie all of Oakland, Iowa; daughter-in-law ReAnn Hildebrand of Oakland, Iowa; four grandchildren: Christopher Hildebrand and his wife Christine of Des Moines, Iowa, Danene Hildebrand of Council Bluffs, Ryan Hildebrand and Anna Hildebrand both of Oakland, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
