Lois Catherine Sonderman was born on September 23, 1943 to Henry and Collette (Brincks) Soppe in Carroll, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She graduated with the Class of 1961 from Kuemper High School in Carroll, Iowa.
She met Leo Sonderman at a dance at the Star Lite Ballroom in Carroll and on July 8, 1967, they were united in marriage at St. Lawrence. There were four children born to them: Stephanie, Jeff, Stacie, and Sara.
Lois loved being a housewife and mother. She was happiest in her kitchen cooking to feed her family and would often help her husband on the farm. They became members of St. Peter’s Catholic Church when they settled on the farm near Defiance, Iowa.
Lois always gave selflessly, was a good dancer, and any kind of cookie she baked was the grandkids’ favorite. She enjoyed visiting the local casinos and hit jackpots quite often. She also enjoyed playing cards and Bunco. Some of her favorite sayings were “one day at a time” and “always believe in God”.
After a brief illness and stay at Little Flower Nursing Home in Earling, Iowa, Lois died on Thursday, April 24, 2014 having attained the age of seventy years, seven months, and one day. In addition to her parents, Henry and Collette Soppe, she was preceded in death by her sister Bernita Soppe.
