Lois Jean Thomsen was born on July 9, 1929 in Minden, Iowa to Elmer and Alice Wohlert Thomsen. Lois Jean graduated with the Atlantic High School Class of 1947. She worked at J.C. Penney in Atlantic, Iowa prior to marrying.
Lois Jean met Bob Young at a 4H dance in Atlantic, Iowa and shortly after the couple married on December 10, 1950 at the First Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa. Four children were born to this union: Gary, David, Jimmy and Becky. Lois Jean was a homemaker and worked alongside Bob driving truck and hauling cattle and grain as well as, doing the book keeping for the business.
The family moved to their Walnut residence over fifty years ago and together the couple enjoyed spending time with their family, especially if it involved a good meal. They also enjoyed going to the casino together to pass the time. Lois Jean enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning, and collecting ceramic chickens.
Bob died in September of 2012 having shared sixty one years of marriage with Lois Jean. Lois Jean moved to Atlantic Specialty Care in 2014 and was there until she passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2016 having attained eighty seven years, one month and five days. Preceding her in death were her parents Elmer and Alice, husband Bob, and sister Arlene.
Lois Jean is survived by her children: Gary Young and his wife Ruby of Walnut, IA; David Young of Las Vegas, NV; Jim Young and his wife Denise of Oakland, IA; Becky and husband Jim Lange of Hamlin, IA; Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren: James and his wife Sarah and their two children Brielle and Colton of Creston, IA; Rhonda and her husband Andy and their two children Ashlyn and Emmett of Clive, IA; Cody and fiancé Roxi of Sidney, IA; Kevin and his wife Kim and their son Carson of Bondurant, IA; Tyler and his wife Jacqueline and their son Andersen of Council Bluffs; IA; Mikayla and fiancé Angelo and their two children Autumn and Andrea of Oakland, IA; Jordan Young of Oakland, IA Kelsi and fiancé Wyatt of Ankeny, IA; Wes Young of Oakland, IA; sisters: Delores Hansen of Atlantic, IA; Bonnie Ford of Evansville, IA; other relatives and friends.
