Loretta Helena Rosenow, daughter of Ulrich and Katherine (Miller) Albers, was born on October 12, 1906, on a farm outside of Earling, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph�s Catholic Church in Earling and attended St. Joseph�s Catholic Schools.
On December 27, 1928, Loretta was united in marriage to Perley Rosenow in Denison, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Marjorie, Donald, and Kenneth ("Nick"). After their wedding, Loretta and Perley made their home outside of Earling until 1941, when they moved to a farm north of Tennant, Iowa. They farmed there until 1943, when they moved into Tennant, Iowa. On March 9, 1981, Loretta and Perley became residents of Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, Iowa, where Loretta enjoyed making ceramics, helping peel vegetables for the soup suppers, and making mints for special occasions. She was also crowned Elm Crest�s Valentine�s Day Queen,
After Perley died in 1984, Loretta continued to live at Elm Crest for almost twenty-nine years and was their longest living resident. It is also believed that Loretta was Shelby County�s longest living lifetime resident.
Loretta was a great cook and enjoyed cooking for her friends and family. She also enjoyed playing bingo and cards, listening to music, and watching the birds.
Loretta died on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of one hundred and three years, four months, and twenty-three days. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Perley; her son, Nick; her granddaughter, Janice Kramer; her brothers, Alois and Herman; and her sister, Veronica Schulte.
She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie and her husband, Robert Kramer, of Harlan, Iowa; her son, Donald Rosenow and his wife, Lois, of Tipton, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Mildred Rosenow of Shelby, Iowa; nine grandchildren: James Kramer and his wife Judy; Sharon Kramer; Julie Kramer; Carolyn Blum and her husband Bruce; Cindy Licht and her husband Kevin; Craig Rosenow; Carol Rosenow; Rodney Rosenow and his wife Debbie; and LaVonne Robinson and her husband Dan; fifteen great-grandchildren: Nathan Kramer; Mikayla Blum; Alex Blum; Jenna Blum; Sarah Licht; Erick Licht; Andrew Rosenow; Melissa Rosenow; Michael Rosenow; Mandy Brenneis; Mallory Rosenow; Nicholas Rosenow; Andrea Grile and her husband Wes; Katie Robinson; and Clint Robinson; three great-great-grandchildren: Maddie Brenneis; Joey Brenneis; and Natalie Grile; other family members and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at St. Michael�s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. Rev. Bob Hoefler celebrated the 11:00 AM service. Interment was held at the Union Township Cemetery in Defiance, Iowa, with Kevin Licht, Rodney Rosenow, Bruce Blum, James Kramer, Craig Rosenow, and Dan Robinson serving as casket bearers.
