Louis Osterlund

Louis L. Osterlund was born at Vail, Iowa, September 1, 1926, the son of Louis and Leta Mae Westcott Osterlund. He was raised there where he received his education, graduating from the Vail High School. In 1945 Louis was united in marriage with Margaret "Muggy" Higgins and their union was blessed with five children, Marilyn, Sammi, Robert, Steven and Chris. They made their home on the farm at Vail where they farmed and raised their family. Margaret died in 1984. On July 21, 1990 Louis was united in marriage with Patricia Schreck Kemper at St. Ann?s Catholic Church in Vail. They made their home on the farm, where through the years in addition to his farming career, Louis was employed at Marvin?s in Vail and at Yellow Smoke Park in Denison. In his spare time Louis loved to golf, play cards, socialize with family and friends and found great enjoyment in mowing and caring for their large yard. He was a member of St. Ann?s Catholic Church in Vail. Louis died late Sunday, December 2, 2007, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 81 years, 3 months and 1 day. Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Leta Osterlund, his first wife, Margaret, one son, Steven Osterlund, one brother, Melvin Osterlund and one sister, Viola North. Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife, Pat Osterlund of Vail, four children, Marilyn Swanson of Bloomington, Minnesota, Sammi Osterlund and friend, Larry Pullen of Fremont, Nebraska, Robert Osterlund and wife, Christy of Tallahassee, Florida and Chris Osterlund and wife, Sarah of Carroll, three step-children, Brenda Aschinger of Ida Grove, William Kemper and wife, Nicky of Carroll and Jill and husband, Jared Schon of Carroll, five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, one great grandson, sister-in-law, Louise Osterlund of Denison, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 6, 2007, at St. Ann?s Catholic Church in Vail with Father John M. Thomas as Celebrant. Others participating in the mass will include, Servers, Melissa Thelen and Art Adams, Lectors, Mark and Betty Schwery, Gift Bearers will be grandchildren and Eucharistic Ministers will be Gene and Shirley Gallagher and John Dieter. St. Ann?s Adult Choir will provide the music for the mass singing "On Eagles Wings", "Prayer of St. Francis", "Be Not Afraid" and "How Great Thou Art" with Irene Feilmeier serving as organist. Pallbearers will be John Krajicek, Kim Von Glan, Clint Von Glan, John Linberg, Joe Thelen, Tom Ludwig, Bob Ludwig and Tom Adams. Interment will be at St. Ann?s Catholic Cemetery at Vail. Following the services the family invites everyone to join them at the Vail Community Building for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by St. Ann?s Parish Group.
