Louis George Weihs, son of Anton John and Catherine Marie (Stinn) Weihs, was born July 28, 1921 on a farm in Grove Township near Earling, Iowa. He was baptized at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance, Iowa, and attended Grove Township country school.

On January 11, 1954, Louis was united in marriage to Rita LaVon Reid at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Ron, Julie and David. After their marriage, they farmed east of Harlan where they remained.

In addition to farming, Louis enjoyed working with stock cows. He served as a 4H Club leader and enjoyed spending time on projects with the kids. His farm and his family were his passions.

After Rita’s death in 1994, Louis remained on the family farm until his health forced him to become a resident of Elm Crest Retirement Home in Harlan in 2005. It was there that he died on Saturday, April 5, 2014 having attained the age of ninety-two years, eight months, and eight days. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rita, brother Alfred, and sisters Marilyn and Edna.
