Louise R. Jensen
October 1, 1928 — March 23, 2011
Louise Ruth Jensen, daughter of Ed and Helen (Dobernecker) Parr, was born on October 1, 1928, in Persia, Iowa and was baptized and confirmed at St. John�s Lutheran Church in Persia. She attended Pleasant Ridge Country School outside of Persia and graduated from Persia High School. After graduation, Louise began working as a waitress in Harlan and Minden. It was at a restaurant in Minden that she met her future husband, Mike.
On June 6, 1950, Louise was united in marriage to Clarence "Mike" Morton Jensen in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Three sons were born to this union: Michael, Jerry, and Bruce. After their wedding, Louise and Mike made their home in Oakland and Walnut before moving south of Minden where they began farming. Louise worked hard on the farm, raising 12,000 laying hens and working in her large garden. Her boys were her life and she enjoyed raising them and watching them grow up.
While living near Minden, Louise began working at the Minden Meat Market for eleven years and the Minden Church of Christ for twelve years before becoming a custodian at Tri-Center School for five years. Louise retired in 1991 and continued to make her home in Minden before she and Mike moved to North Carolina for six months to be closer to their son Michael and his family.
In 2008, Louise and Mike moved back to Iowa and made their home in Algona to be closer to their son Bruce and his family.
Mike and Louise enjoyed traveling and made numerous trips with the Shelby County State Bank Commanders Club. They have seen numerous places including: Washington, DC; Hawaii; Alaska; New York; Niagra Falls; California; Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Louise also enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, and dancing.
Louise and Mike moved to West Bend Care Center on August 2, 2010 and this is where Louise died on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, having attained the age of eighty-two years, five months, and twenty-two days. Louise was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Norma Coney and Genevive "Toots" Kimmish.
She is survived by her husband of sixty years, Mike Jensen of West Bend, Iowa; sons: Michael Jensen and his wife Linda of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jerry Jensen and his wife Paula of Boulder, Colorado, and Bruce Jensen and his wife Cindi of Algona, Iowa; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Jeanette Swensen of Elk Horn, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Pastor Brian Wohlhuter officiated the 2:00 PM Funeral Service at the United Church of Christ in Minden, Iowa on Saturday, March 26, 2011. Interment was held in the Minden Cemetery with Tom Jensen, J.C. Jensen, Eric Jensen, Dick Jensen, and Wade Andersen serving as casket bearers.
