Lowell Duane Young, son of Raymond and Albena (Blazek) Young, was born on December 6, 1930 in Prescott, Iowa. He attended school in Prescott where he graduated with the class of 1948.

On May 3, 1952, Lowell was united in marriage to Naomi Dudley in Morgan Field, Kentucky. They both became members of First Christian Church which is now the United Church of Christ in Avoca.

After marriage, Lowell enlisted in the United States Army in Omaha, Nebraska. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1960. He received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and served eight additional years in the Army Reserves.

Lowell loved the outdoors; he was an avid fisherman and was always known to have a garden. For many years, he mowed the Avoca Fairgrounds and maintenance at the Avoca car wash. Lowell had a knack for farming and became a Farm Equipment Technician at the Avoca Implement for 35 years before his retirement in 2003.

Having spent the last four years at the Avoca Speciality Clinic, Lowell passed away peacefully on Monday, October 22, 2018 having attained the age of eighty-seven years, ten months and sixteen days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Naomi Young; siblings Bill Young, Earl Young, Grace Truman and Elva Osmond Maher. He is survived by special friends Jerry and Joyce Mez of Avoca, Iowa; Clifford and Lucille Speed of Davenport, Iowa; Rex and Paula Eichelberger of Avoca, Iowa; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
