Lyle Allen Meyer, son of Charlie and Alma (Schroeder) Meyer, was born January 29, 1931 in Carroll, Iowa. He was baptized August 23, 1932 in Westside, Iowa and confirmed in 1958 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. He attended grade school in the country at Hayes School in Westside until the 8th grade. Lyle enlisted into the United States Army during the Korean War, he served his country honorably until 1954. He received an Army Occupational Medal and National Defense Service Medal. On April 18, 1954, Lyle was united in marriage to JoAnn Delorse Maack at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stockholm Township. Five children were born to this union: Charles, Lynnel, Jerry, Stanely,and Darwin. Lyle farmed while working other jobs around the area. He worked at IBP in the hide cellar, he was handyman at Community Oil, worked sometime at Launderville Asphalt and drove truck for Vern Tech. From September of 1976 to June of 2000, he was a School Bus Driver. Lyle enjoyed spending time outdoors, driving his 1952 Ford Ferguson Tractor, gardening, sitting on the porch listening to the polka party. You could find Lyle spending many hours "tinkering" in his garage. Lyle died surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Eventide Lutheran Home where he had resided for the last five years. At the time of his death he had attained the age of 86 years, 4 months and 10 days. Besides his parents, Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Meyer, brother, Marvin Meyer, sister, Shirley Speck, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jeanae Meyer, Pat Speck, Edna Meyer, and Merlin and Ruth Maack. Those remaining to cherish his memory are sons: Charles (Robin) Meyer of Denison, Iowa; Lynnel Meyer of Fresno, California; Jerry (Lori)Meyer of Denison, Iowa; Stanley Meyer of Vail, Iowa; Darwin (Chris) Meyer of Denison, Iowa; 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; brother, Clayton Meyer of Denison, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
