Lyle Arthur Norton was born on November 20, 1929 to Lynn and Anne (Blum) Norton in Frederic, Wisconsin. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa and re-enlisted in the United States Army on June 21, 1949. He spent a total of eight years in the military, fought in Korea, and earned two Silver Star medals before his honorary discharge on August 25, 1952.
On May 9, 1953, Lyle was united in marriage to Jackie Clark in Irwin, Iowa. They became parents to four children: Rochellen, Brian, Brad, and Tracey. He worked for the telephone company for thirty-six years before retiring in 1991.
Lyle was a very friendly and outgoing person, always starting up conversations with anyone wherever he was. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and softball. He sang in the church choir and was constantly singing to his grandchildren, when he wasn’t letting them watch MTV. He could be found outside gardening or doing yard work with Jackie, although it wasn’t always by his choice.
Lyle died on Monday, January 25, 2016 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of eighty-six years, two months, and five days. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Brian, daughter Rochellen, sister Beth Davis, and brothers Glen, Bud, and Ken.
He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty-three years Jackie Norton of Harlan, Iowa; sons Brad Norton of Avoca, Iowa and Tracey Norton of Harlan, Iowa; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; other family members and many friends.
