Lynn Allen Peterson was born on March 2, 1940 near Audubon, Iowa, to Wesley and Dorothy (Nelson) Peterson. He was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, Iowa, where he remained a lifelong member. He attended Mount Zion Country School in rural Audubon County through the seventh grade and graduated from Audubon High School with the Class of 1958. He attended Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Missouri for one year.
On March 11, 1960, he was united in marriage to Jacqueline "Jackie" Haskins at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon. Six children were born to this union: Scott, Toni, Tim, Gail, Amy, and Chris.
He worked at Jensen�s Auto and Louie�s Standard in Audubon, drove a truck for Walt Williams of Audubon, and then farmed for Wilfred Jensen in rural Shelby County. He drove a truck for Petersen Brothers Trucking in Jacksonville for thirty-six years. Lynn farmed the Century family farm in Audubon County where he grew up. In 1981, they purchased an acreage in rural Shelby County where they have lived since.
Lynn�s hobbies were birdwatching, woodworking, gardening, and taking care of the flower beds in his many rock gardens. He remained active in farming and raising cattle and had collected over 100 toy Oliver tractors as well as eleven Oliver farm tractors.
Lynn died on Friday, February 25, 2011, at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of seventy years, eleven months, and twenty-three days. He was preceded in death by his father Wesley Peterson.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years Jackie Peterson of Jacksonville, Iowa; his children Scott Peterson and his wife Kerry of Hewitt, Wisconsin, Toni and her husband Bob Andersen of Jacksonville, Iowa, Tim Peterson of Kimballton and special friend Deb Campbell, Gail Peterson of Jacksonville, Iowa, Amy and her husband Juan Cisneros of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Chris Peterson of Council Bluffs and special friend Misty Scrivner; seventeen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and two more expected; his mother Dorothy Peterson of Harlan; sisters: Patricia and her husband Ike Jordan of Citrus Heights, California, Betty and her husband Denny Lawrence of Council Bluffs, and Bonnie and her husband Tom Palmer of Le Mars, Iowa; brother Curtis Peterson of Roseville, California; and his in-laws Kelly Fairchild of Harlan, Dallas Haskins of Hope Mills, North Carolina, Alan Haskins and his wife JoAnn of Audubon, Iowa, Mike Haskins of Rabbit Hatch, Kentucky, and Sherri Payne of North Augusta, South Carolina; other family members and many friends.
Pastor Ron Rasmussen officiated the 10:30 AM funeral service on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, Iowa. Honorary casket bearers were Alexander Cisneros, Richard Blackman, Juanito Cisneros, Nitosha Young, Henry Cisneros, Amanda Gehrke, Grace Scrivner, and Liberty Scrivner. Serving as casket bearers were Abigale Peterson, Ashley and Michael Bores, Andrew Peterson, Caitlin Andersen, Ryan and Khanh Andersen, Jacob Andersen, Traci Peterson, Michael Blackman, and April Peterson and Kyle Murtaugh. Interment was held at the Jacksonville Cemetery in Jacksonville, Iowa.
