Lyro Ann Knights

Lyro Ann (Barnum) Knights was born on May 5, 1931 near Woodbine, Iowa to Floyd Barnum & Bernese (Schneider) Barnum. She graduated from Logan High School in 1949. On June 25, 1949 she married Gordon Dale Knights. They were married for 59 years. They were blessed with five children Peggy, Gail, Rita, William, & Janae. Lyro & Gordon lived in the Denison, Dow City, and Harlan area for most of their married lives.
Lyro enjoyed quilting, making quilts for each of her children and grandchildren, crocheting & knitting making afghans for each of her children. One year she challenged herself to make 100 stocking caps for Open Door Mission. She was a baker, with breads and cinnamon rolls as her speciality. While living on their acreage Lyro’s other great loves were gardening, canning, goats, dogs, cats, chickens, and other farm animals.
Lyro died on November 8, 2020 at the Dunlap Specialty Care Center at the age of 89 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gordon, son William “Bill”, and sister Twyla Hein. She is survived by her children Peggy Knights of Tekamah, NE, Gail (Darla) Knights of Iowa Falls, Rita Knights of Harlan, Janae (Kyle) Schomers of Harlan; five grandchildren Jason Knights and special friend Tracy Ahrenholtz, Shawn Knights, Dennis (Chelsea) Knights, Bethany (Michael) Marnik, Sara (David) Harper; six great-grandchildren Aiden, Grady, Mila, Daisy, Lydia, and Reuben and special friend Wally Auen.
