Madge Delico Fiscus was born on March 5, 1926 to Walter and Lucille (Errett) Findlay on the family farm near Harlan, Iowa. She attended country school in rural Harlan and graduated from Harlan High School with the Class of 1943.
On January 19, 1947, she was united in marriage to Leonard Fiscus at the First United Methodist Church in Harlan, where she remained a lifelong member. They became parents to two sons: Randy and Barry.
Madge was a homemaker and joined her husband in making his farming career a success. They grew corn, oats, and hay and kept livestock and chickens. The Shelby County Fair was a big part of their lives and Leonard would bid at all the pie auctions. They belonged to the Shelby County Saddle Club and showed quarter horses at the county fair as well as at Ak Sar Ben in Omaha, Nebraska.
The family enjoyed summer vacations boating at Clear Lake. They also enjoyed supporting their grandchildren in their activities, including softball, volleyball, and dance recitals.
For over fifty years, Madge kept in contact with her schoolmates and continued to get together every so often for their sewing club meetings.
Madge died on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at the Hospice House in Ames, Iowa, having attained the age of eighty-eight years, nine months, and twelve days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and an infant.
She is survived by her sons Randy Fiscus and his wife Shyrl of Iowa Falls, Iowa and Barry Fiscus of Atlantic, Iowa; two granddaughters Casey and her husband Matt McNeal and Nikki and her husband Ryan Allen all of Iowa Falls; five great-grandkids: Carson, Leah, and Nolan Allen, Dustin Reed, and Brody McNeal; sister-in-law Violet Fiscus; other family members and friends.
