Marceda W. Petersen
February 29, 1916 — February 22, 2007
Marceda Wilma Petersen, the daughter of William and Anna (Trede) Bestmann, was born on February 29, 1916 a farm near Shelby. She attended school in Shelby and graduated at the top of her class in 1933. After graduation she attended Drake University majoring in business.
Marceda was united in marriage to Erwin A. Petersen in Minden, Iowa on July 2, 1940. After their marriage they farmed in Pleasant Township for over forty years. After retiring and moving to Minden, Erwin passed away in 1992. Marceda was a member of the United Church of Christ and served as Sunday School Superintendent, as well as enjoying her years in the church's Women Fellowship groups. She was an avid reader, enjoyed doing the puzzles in the morning paper, cooking for her family and friends, and appreciated the thoughtfulness and concern of her neighbors. Marceda always had an interest in many things.
Marceda died on Thursday, February 22, 2007, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa having attained the age of ninety years, eleven months and twenty-four days. She is preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother and a sister, Muree Geiger.
Survivors include her children: Kathy and her husband Jim Coffin of Anaheim Hills, California and Pat and her husband Steve Schroeder of Johnston, Iowa; one grandson, Sam Schroeder of Denver, Colorado and one brother William Bestmann and his wife Gerry of Marshalltown, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services were held on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the United Church of Christ in Minden, Iowa with Pastor Brian Wohlhuter and Pastor Duane Gibson serving as clergy. Casket bearers were Alan Higley, Jim Storjohann, Jay Bestmann, Darrel Petersen, Charlie Higley and David Storjohann. Interment was in the Minden Cemetery.
