Marcene Rose Twark

Marcene Rose Twark, the daughter of Ernest and Dorothy Zimmerman, was born on October 19, 1934 in Panama, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1952. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Mount St. Scholastica, now known as Benedictine College at Atchison, Kansas. She taught elementary school for 14 years at St. Joseph’s School in Earling Iowa, St. Agnes School in Omaha, and a year at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School in State College, PA.
On December 27, 1969, she was united in marriage to Richard David Twark in Ravenna, Ohio. They made their home in State College, Pennsylvania where Richard was a professor at Penn State University. She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.
Marcene died on Monday, October 2, 2017 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. In addition to her parents, Marcene is preceded in death by an infant son, her sister Grace and brother Harold. She is survived by her husband Richard Twark; her children David Twark of State College, Jennifer and her husband Joseph Gersch Jr. of Mingoville, PA, and Joanne Twark of State College; her siblings Elaine Zimmerman, Dolores Stessman, Allan Zimmerman, and Don Zimmerman, all of Panama, IA; her aunt Mary A. Schaben of Earling, IA; nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, October 20, 2017 at 11:00AM, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Panama, Iowa with Father David Smith, S.J. officiating. Family will greet friends an hour prior to Mass at the St. Mary’s Parish Center. Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan in charge of Iowa arrangements. Mass will also be held at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, in State College, PA, Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 10:00 am with burial in Pine Hall Cemetery. The family requests memorials in Marcene’s honor be made to: PAWS, St. Mary Catholic Church in Panama, or charity of donor’s choice.
