Marguerite Mary Lengeling was born in Carroll, Iowa, March 29, 1918, the daughter of Charles A. and Amelia Mueller Neumayer. She was raised on the farm and received her education at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School. She then attended Cosmetology School in Fort Dodge. On November 28, 1940, Marguerite was united in marriage with Vincent H. Lengeling at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Mt. Carmel. Their union was blessed with three children; Renee, Joseph and James. They made their home in Breda, Iowa, where Marguerite owned a beauty shop. During World War II, when Vince was in military service, she worked in Des Moines, Iowa, and later in Sacramento, California, where he was stationed. Following his discharge they made their home in Scranton, Iowa. In April of 1949, the Lengelings moved to Denison where they owned and operated their wholesale and retail meat locker business until 1978. After the children were grown Marguerite assisted her husband in their business and later was employed at the Color Center in Denison. Following their retirement they remained in Denison and Marguerite had more time to enjoy her hobbies of china painting, cake decorating and traveling. She was a long time active member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison where she served as Eucharistic Minister, was a Legion of Mary member and served as President, Treasurer and Secretary of St. Rose Ladies Guild. She also enjoyed her memberships in Questers, Friday Club, China Painting Club, and, in earlier years, she was a Leader of the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. Vincent died March 22, 2001, and Marguerite continued to make her home in Denison, most recently at Reed House. Marguerite died late Friday, April 16, 2010 in Denison. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 92 years and 17 days. Including her parents, Charles and Amelia Neumayer, step-mother, Anna Neumayer, and her husband, Vincent, Marguerite was also preceded in death by their daughter, Reneé Elam, two sisters: Annabelle and Bettie Neumayer; and four brothers: Richard, Leo, Vincent and Wilbur Neumayer. Those remaining to cherish her memory include two sons and three grandchildren: Joseph Lengeling and wife Noriko of New York, NY; James Lengeling and wife Mari of Maplewood, NJ and their daughter, Gina Lengeling of New York, NY; Nicole Elam of Arizona; and William Elam III of Ohio; four great grandchildren: Robert, Brittany, Lauren and Brooke Elam; son-in-law: William Elam and wife, Kim of Lincoln, NE; three brothers: Oliver Neumayer of Lake View, IA; Fred Neumayer of California; and Robert Neumayer of Colorado; two sisters: Bernice Tiehen of Washington; and Phyllis Finn of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law: Jean Lengeling of Collins, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 19, 2010, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison with Father Paul Kelly as Celebrant. Music for the mass included EveVonne Muff singing “I Will Rise” and the St. Rose of Lima Choir singing “Christ Be Beside Me”, “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman” and “On Eagles Wings” with Judy Thams serving as accompanist. Others participating in the Mass included Christian Symbol Placers: Joseph and James Lengeling; Lectors: William Elam, Nicole Elam and Gina Lengeling; Gift Bearers: John and Bernie Hogan and Richard and Rosemarie Penn; and Eucharistic Ministers: Judy Brodersen, Nora Millea and Dan Pfannebecker. Pallbearers were Paul Lengeling, Allen Thams, Bill Neumayer, Steve Finn, Mark Lengeling and Randall Lengeling. Interment was at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Mt. Carmel, IA. Following the Mass the family cordially invited everyone to join them at St. Rose Parish Center for a meal catered and served by Hy-Vee and St. Rose of Lima Ladies Guild. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home, www.pfannebecker.com , in Denison was in charge of arrangements where on Sunday, April 18, 2010, a Legion of Mary Rosary was prayed at 5:00 p.m. and a Parish Vigil Service was held at 7:00 p.m.
