Maria del pilar Cantu was born in Mexico, October 12, 1944, the daughter of Luis Casanova and Inocencia Alaniz. She was raised in Mexico where she received her education. Maria was united in marriage with Hector Cantu at Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico and their union was blessed five children: Mario, Josefa, Hector, Oscar and Jesus. Maria was a homemaker all of her life, lovingly caring for her family. Hector died October 25, 2000. Following the death of her husband, Maria moved to Texas where she resided until moving to Denison, Iowa, in 2005 where she had since resided. Surrounded by her loving family, Maria died Sunday, February 6, 2011, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 66 years, 3 months and 24 days. Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Luis Casanova and Inocencia Alaniz and her husband, Hector Cantu. Those remaining to cherish her memory include her five children and their spouses: Mario and Linda Cantu of Denison, Iowa, Josefa and Nahum Luna of Denison, Iowa, Hector and Maria de los Angeles Cantu of Denison, Iowa, Oscar and Claudia Cantu of Brownsville, Texas and Jesus and Ada Cantu of Denison, Iowa, eleven grandchildren: two great-grandchildren: nine siblings: Luis Casanova, Oralia Alvarez, Ramiro Casanova, Francisco Casanova and wife, Gloria and Matilde and Chito Sauceda all of Mexico, Guadalupe and husband Eladio Arenas and Oscar Casanova and wife, Petra of Brownsville, Texas, Ofelia and husband, Petra Sanchez and Manuel Casanova of Mexico, other relatives and friends.
