Marian Jean Anliker
February 20, 1941 — January 15, 2024
Marian Jean Anliker, 82, of Harlan, IA passed away on January 15, 2024 after a decline in her health while surrounded by her loving family.
Marian was born on February 20th, 1941 to Eli and Pearl Gerber in West Bend, IA. She was one of seven sisters who grew up and worked the family farm. One of her favorite activities growing up was participating in the local 4H chapter.
In 1958 Marian married her husband of 65 years, Aaron Anliker, in the Little Brown Church in the Vale. Marian and Aaron went on to have 3 children: Mike (Darla) Anliker of Harlan, IA, Deb (Ken) Weinberg of Apache Junction, AZ, and Jeanne (Paul) Lee of Huxley, IA.
Marian loved spending time with her family. Highlights included 40 consecutive family zoo trips to the Henry Doorly Zoo, Christmas shopping with grandkids, and time spent playing games, laughing and reminiscing at sister weekends.
When she wasn't with family, you could often find her tending one of her many beautiful flower gardens which earned her numerous awards at the County Fair. She also enjoyed cross-stitching and creating many beautiful baby quilts that were a blessing to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In her later years, she and Aaron enjoyed escaping the Iowa cold by spending several months in Mexico each winter. During this time they acquired numerous close friends from all around the US and Canada which made wintering in Mexico even more enjoyable.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Nancy Gerber and Linda Blair She is survived by her husband, Aaron Anliker of Harlan, IA; children Mike (Darla) Anliker of Harlan, IA, Deb (Ken) Weinberg of Apache Junction, AZ, and Jeanne (Paul) Lee of Huxley, IA; 3 grandchildren, Christopher (Moriah) Koch, Katie (Sam) Arentson and Jamie (Derrick) Young ; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Donna Bond, Judy (Ron) Girres, Francis Knobloch, and Bonnie Berg; along with many other family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a memorial fund which will be given to the Congregational United Church of Christ of Harlan, Iowa.
