Marie Coenen

Marie Coenen, daughter of Joseph and Lena (Haberberger) Block was born August 20, 1928 in Earling, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling. She attended and graduated from St. Joseph’s School.
On May 23, 1949, Marie was united in marriage to Paul Coenen at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. They were the parents of five children: Craig, Patricia, Bruce, Janis, and Brian.
Marie spent many years as a stay-at-home mom raising her children. She picked apples for Brickyard Orchard. She also worked at CDS. She loved going for walks, playing BINGO and cards. She loved her plants and had a crazy green thumb. Marie found beauty in all things plants, animals, just nature. Most of all, she loved her family.
She died on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Avoca Specialty Care in Avoca, Iowa, attaining the age of ninety-three years, five months, and six days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Paul, children Bruce Coenen, Patricia Stoterau, siblings Francis Block, Gerald Block, James Block, Barbara Patten.
She is survived by her children Craig Coenen of Nixa, Missouri; Janis (Thomas) Scheffler of Harlan, Iowa; Brian (Amy) Coenen of Harlan, Iowa; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
