Marie Dorothy Kohles was born on December 25, 1932 to John and Theresia (Wilwerding) Kohles on the family farm near Earling, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling where she also attended Catholic School, graduating with the Class of 1950. She went on to attend Briar Cliff college in Sioux City, Iowa, before graduating from Capital Beauty School in Omaha, Nebraska, with her license to practice cosmetology. She owned and operated Kohles Beauty Salon in Omaha until 1981 when she sold the business and returned to Earling.
Marie was a very generous person, especially to her family and her church. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court of Saint Katherine No. 266 of Earling, and took care of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for many years.
In May of 2010, Marie became a resident of Little Flower Haven Nursing Home in Earling. This is where she died on Monday, January 25, 2016 at the age of eighty-three years and one month. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Rita, and brothers Kenneth, Donald, and Dennis.
She is survived by her brothers James Kohles of Harlan, Iowa and Julius “Dewey” Kohles of Greenwood, Nebraska; sister Ruth and her husband Ron Nollen of Westphalia, Iowa; sister-in-law Joanne Kohles of Earling, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends.
