Marion Irene Ries was born in Odebolt, Iowa, January 27, 1925, the daughter of Paul Jacob and Irene Freese Gronemeyer. She was raised in Odebolt where she received her education graduating from the Odebolt High School. Following high school she furthered her education receiving her teaching certification. Marion was united in marriage with John Hunt at Odebolt, Iowa, and their union was blessed with three sons: John David, Roger LeRoy and Thomas Paul. Following Mr. Hunt’s death Marion and sons continued to reside in Odebolt. On September 19, 1961, Marion was united in marriage with Donald Edward Ries in Odebolt, Iowa. They made their home in Denison where their union was blessed with three children: Adam Donald, Susan Marie and Michael Gary. Together with her husband they owned and operated Ries Amusement in Denison. Donald died October 28, 1981, and following his death Marion continued as owner and president of Ries Amusement until her retirement in October, 2012. Throughout her career Marion was an active supporter and member of the Denison business community and Chamber of Commerce. In addition, she was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison. In her leisure time Marion enjoyed her membership in bridge club, crossword puzzles, collecting information from newspapers and visiting with friends over a glass of H2O. She was a dedicated caretaker of her mother, her husbands, children and Ries Amusement. Marion was preceded in death by her parents: Paul Jacob and Irene Gronemeyer; her husbands: John Hunt and Donald Ries; two sons: Roger Hunt and Thomas Hunt; and three brothers: Lyle Gronemeyer, P.Dale Gronemeyer and Tom Gronemeyer. Survivors include four children: John David Hunt of Omaha, Nebraska, Adam Donald Ries of Denison, Iowa, Susan Marie (Ries) Sager and husband Gary R. Sager of Riverside, Iowa, and Michael Gary Ries and wife Sandy (Cook) Ries of Malcolm, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law: Kathy Hunt of Denison, Iowa, and Nancy Hunt of Brainerd, Minnesota; sister-in-law Delores Gronemeyer of Ames, Iowa, other relatives and friends. Memorial services were held at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Pfannebecker Funeral Home, Denison, Iowa, with Father Paul Kelly officiating. Music for the service included recorded selections of “Ave Maria”, “Amazing Grace” and “In The Garden”. Private family inurnment was at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens, Denison, Iowa. Following the services the family invited everyone to join them at Silveridge in Denison for fellowship and a luncheon catered by Hy-Vee of Denison.
