Marjorie Mignon Leinen was born on April 3, 1924 to Oadis “Tom” and Helen (Erickson) Burger in Poplar, Iowa. She graduated from Harlan High School with the Class of 1942.
On June 29, 1943, she was united in marriage to Leo Leinen at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa, where they remained lifelong members. They became parents to ten children: Sharon, Mary Ann, Gail, Nancy, Gary, Cindy, Leo, Doug, Lisa, and Brian.
In addition to raising her children, Marjorie helped her husband on the farm, tended to her huge garden, and baked breads and pies. She was a good cook, loved watching sports, especially tennis, and anything her grandchildren participated in.
After Leo retired from farming, he and Marjorie moved to Omaha, Nebraska. Leo died just four months after they celebrated their sixty-second wedding anniversary. Marjorie lived at Montclair Nursing Home, where she died on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the age of ninety-two years, one month, and fourteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Mary Ann Anderson, son Gary Leinen, and brothers Leon and Darrell Burger.
She is survived by her children: Sharon Kreus of Omaha, Nebraska, Gail Leinen and his wife Connie of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Nancy and her husband Rob Skinner of New Port Richey, Florida, Cindy Grau of Manning, Iowa, Leo Leinen, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Sahuarita, Arizona, Doug Leinen and his wife Lora of Omaha, Nebraska, Lisa and her husband Robert Wieduwilt of Gilbert, Arizona, and son Brian Leinen and his wife Deb of Chandler, Arizona; twenty-five grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Marsha Burger of Cassville, Missouri; other family members and friends.
