Marjorie Ladwene Thomsen, daughter of Louis Aaron and Mary Edith (Shaw) Begley was born on January 29, 1936 in Missouri. She was baptized in Omaha, Nebraska and was raised with music and hard work. Her dad bought her a piano when she was eight years old and she played by ear; spending many hours playing.
On June 12, 1955 Marjorie was united in marriage to Kenneth Thomsen. To this union, they had three children: Rick, Barney and Lori. After Ken spent four years in the service, he was discharged and they moved back to Walnut, Iowa. They moved from Walnut to Jacksonville, Iowa, where Ken worked as a mechanic while Marge raised their children and gardened.
In February of 1968, they moved from Jacksonville to a farm north of Shelby, Iowa. She kept up her gardening and babysat some of the neighborhood children. She worked as a back-up cook at Ember’s Restaurant in Shelby for a year and half, teacher’s aide and full-time cook for the Shelby Tennant school and laundry aide at REM-Leadway in Shelby for many years. After her retirement, she kept up her flower beds and gardening.
In 1996, they moved from their farm north of Shelby to Tennant; where they had an even larger garden and lawn to keep up. Marge finally retired from her lawn and gardening in March of 2018 when she moved to Elm Crest Independent Living in Harlan where she passed away on November 9, 2018 attaining to age of eighty-two years, nine months and eleven days. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Donald Begley, mother and father-in-law Warren and Ruby Thomsen and grandson Brandon Thomsen.
Left to cherish her memory, her husband of sixty-three years Kenneth Thomsen of Harlan, Iowa; children Rick Thomsen and his wife Lori of Omaha, Nebraska; Barney Thomsen and his wife Carol of Anita, Iowa; Lori Teachout of Tennant, Iowa; 4 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other family and many friends.
Per Marjorie’s wishes, she has been cremated with a private inurnment at a later date.
