Marjory Maxine Schaaf was born on June 28, 1922 to Olan and Artie (Holt) Stinson in Kirksville, Missouri. She attended grade school and high school in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and graduated with the Class of 1940.
She met Kenneth Schaaf at a dance. They were married on July 24, 1943 in Gainesville, Florida because Ken was in the service at that time. They had two children: Thea and Rick.
Marjory was a hard worker and couldnt sit still. She preferred to be working outside rather than stuck inside. She was a housewife and then worked as a waitress for a time. Her hobbies included painting, playing golf and cards. She played 500 or Euchre with her friends or Crazy 8's with the grandchildren. She also loved to read and watch Wheel of Fortune.
When the kids were little, the family took trips to California to see relatives. Ken became a small plane pilot so they were able to fly to visit their kids when they got older and moved away.
Marjory moved into Avoca Lodge Assisted Living in 2002 and in July of 2008, moved to St. Lukes Nursing Home in Kearney, Nebraska, to be near her daughter.
Marjory died on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at St. Lukes in Kearney, having attained the age of eighty-eight years, eleven months, and five days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth, brother Carl Stinson, and sisters Virgie Chapparo and Frances Elgin.
She is survived by her daughter Thea and her husband Bob Houser of Kearney, Nebraska; son Rick Schaaf and his wife Darlene of Denver, Iowa; five grandchildren: Jason West and his wife Amy of West Des Moines, Iowa, Jennifer and her husband Erik Petrovic of Rolling Meadows, Illinois, Jerrod Houser and his wife Katie of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Kenny Schaaf and Ethan Schaaf both of Waterloo, Iowa; four great-grandchildren: Grant and Levi West and Olivia and Evan Petrovic; sister-in-law Betty Stinson of San Diego, California; other family members and friends.
