Marland Duane Mattox, son of Warren and Mae P (Mueller) Mattox was born February 12, 1932, in Shelby, Iowa. He attended the Shelby-Tennant High School and was confirmed at the Minden Congregational Church. Marland became a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa, until 2002, when he then became and currently was a member of the Morman Later Day Saints in Omaha, Nebraska.
Marland was united in marriage to Dorothy M. Carroll at the First Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa, on September 16, 1951. They were blessed with two children, Danette and Ashley. He farmed and drove truck with his father until 1972. He then worked for Gesford Construction for some time then drove truck for fifteen years, first for Shelby Truck and Trailer then Bakers, until he retired in 2013. Marland loved to polka.
Marland died on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, having attained the age of eighty-five years, one month and eleven days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, son Ashley Mattox and brother Richard Mattox.
He is survived by his daughter Danette and her husband George Koziol of Omaha; sister Marlene and her husband Glen Hipnar of Shelby, Iowa; sister-in-law Carol Mattox of Shelby; other family members and friends.
