Marlene Dayle Klingenborg was born on April 10, 1938 to Orrell and Myrtle (Thompson) Gearhart in Harlan, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the Queen of Apostles Church. She attended school in Harlan and graduated with the Class of 1956. She continued her education at the Mercy School of Nursing.
On September 28, 1959, she was united in marriage to Jack Schaben at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance, Iowa. There were six children born to them: Carol, Dean, Brian, David, and twins Rodney and Roger.
Marlene enjoyed being a housewife and raising her children. She loved to travel and go on camping trips. She was a great cook and everyone loved her chicken noodle soup, which was a good thing because she always made too much! Eight years after Jack’s death, Marlene married Arthur Lee Klingenborg in 1986 and welcomed three step-daughters to her family: Patti, Teresa, and Jolene.
