Marlene Joyce Renfeld
August 27, 1936 — November 5, 2018
Marlene Joyce Renfeld, daughter of Delbert and Leone (Densmore) Leslie was born on August 27, 1936 in Harlan, Iowa. She was the oldest of four children. Marlene was baptized and confirmed at United Church of Avoca in Avoca, Iowa. She graduated from Avoca High School with the class of 1954. Marlene was a lifetime member of United Church of Avoca.
On March 2, 1961, Marlene was united in marriage to Donald Renfeld in Avoca. From this marriage four children were raised: Doreen, Denise, Dean and Deanna. Marlene worked many jobs throughout her lifetime, some including: secretary for the Avoca school system from 1953 to 1955, Ruback’s Super Market as a cashier, a waitress for several local cafes, housekeeping and retiring from The Heritage Inn in 2001.
Marlene loved to bowl, word searches, hold Sunday dinners after church and vacationing in Okoboji every summer. She was a big fan of Elvis Presley, Reba McEntire, Lady Vikes and Mighty Vikings. Marlene was very dedicated to her family, never missing a sporting event of her children nor grandchildren. She was referred to as the “Bleacher Referee” to many around the community. Her family meant more to her than anything, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marlene died on Monday, November 5, 2018 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa attaining the age of eighty-two years, two months and nine days. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Donald Renfeld, beloved daughter Doreen Pieken, brothers Larry and Dennis Leslie and her precious dog Silver.
Left to cherish her memory, her children Denise Grace of Avoca, Iowa; Deanna “Tina” and her husband Ron Scroggie of Avoca, Iowa; Dean Renfeld and his special friend Sheryl Carpenter of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother Russell Leslie and his wife Suzanne of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sisters-in-law Gloria Renfeld and Sharon Leslie both of Hancock, Iowa; brothers-in-law Gordon Renfeld and his wife Margaret of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Wayne Renfeld of New York; best friend Sandra Randall of Walnut, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
