Martha Marie (Nielsen) Sieh
Martha Marie (Nielsen) Sieh was born on July 28, 1924 in Elk Horn, Iowa. She was the only child of Rasmus and Clara (Arentsen) Nielsen. Martha was baptized and confirmed in the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. Her confirmation verse was John 3:16. She attended school in Elk Horn, Iowa graduating with the class of 1941.
After graduation she worked as a Telephone Operator for the Elk Horn/Marne Telephone Company until marrying Erwin Sieh on June 8, 1947 at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. She then stayed home to raise their two sons Mark and Alan.
Martha was a charter member of the Lueth– Staub VFW Auxiliary and secretary of the VFW Auxiliary for thirty five years. She belonged to the former neighborhood K.Y. N. Club for many years. Martha and Erwin along with ten other couples belonged to the 4th of July Bunch and Labor Day Club for almost fifty years.
She enjoyed doing any kind of crafts, especially cross stitch. She also did a few baby quilts over the years. She made many flower corsages for family and friends showers, anniversaries, birthday, whenever someone needed a corsage. She loved to spend time in her
garden and baking, especially Danish pastry. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports.
Martha died at Elm Crest Retirement Home in Harlan, Iowa on Monday, January 25, 2016 having attained the age of ninety one years, five months and twenty eight days. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Martha is survived by her husband of sixty eight years Erwin Sieh; sons Mark and his wife Bonnie of Avoca, Iowa; Alan and his wife Bobbi of Avoca, Iowa; Five Grandchildren: Eric and his wife Angela Sieh; Kelly and her husband Kyle Mallicoat; Jill and her husband Nate Weathers; Ashley and her husband Brant Melvin; AJ Sieh; Four Great Grandchildren: Morgan Sieh, Wyatt Sieh, Grady Mallicoat, and Elizabeth Melvin.
