Martha Mae Mayr Stigler was born July 2, 1921 in Princeton, Missouri to Neil and Maggie (Phillips) Wilson. She attended school in Princeton and graduated with the class of 1939. She was a member of the Christian Church where she was a pianist. After graduation, she attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri and from there she went to St. Louis, Missouri where she worked for one year.



On February 15, 1941, she was united in marriage to Harold R. Mayr of Harlan, Iowa in St. Louis, Missouri whom she had met at the Chillicothe Business College. To this union two daughters were born: Patricia Ann and Dianna Jean. Shortly after their marriage, Harold was inducted into the service where he spent three years and nine months. After his honorable discharge, Harold and Martha moved to Eldora, Iowa where they were in the restaurant business for two years before moving to Harlan where they ran the Maid-Rite Café for twelve years.



Harold died on August 20, 1958 in a boat accident on Lake Okoboji, in northwest Iowa. After his death, Martha and the girls continued to make their home in Harlan. Martha worked for the Pauley Furniture Store for eight years and then went to work at the Baptist Memorial Home where she worked for thirteen years starting as the office manager and ending as the assistant administrator.



In September 1978, Martha moved to West Des Moines, Iowa where she was Assistant Administrator of Scottish Rite Park until her retirement in December of 1983. On October 9, 1982, Martha was united in marriage to Maurice Stigler at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Maurice died on June 13, 1999 and since that time Martha has made her home with her daughter Jeanie in West Des Moines.



Martha died at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on July 9, 2015 having attained the age of ninety-four years and seven days. In addition to her parents, Martha is preceded in death by her husbands Harold Mayr and Maurice Stigler; brothers Howard and Robert Wilson and son-in-law Pat Woods.



She is survived by her daughters: Patsy and her husband Ken Hoogensen and Jeanie Woods both of West Des Moines, Iowa; step son Russ Stigler and his wife Cindi; grandchildren: Jeff Hoogensen and his wife Susan, Jon Hoogensen and his wife Angie and Julie Peelen; great grandchildren: Chloe and Dane Hoogensen, Jacob, Fin and Laurel Hoogensen and Grace, Olivia and Andrew Peelen; step grandchildren: Mike Woods and his wife Cynthia; Margaret and her husband R.L. Sweatman, Luke Stigler and his wife Stevie, Joe Stigler and his wife Samantha; step great grandchild Caitlin Woods; nephew, Bob Wilson and his wife Carletta, brother-in-law Leo Mayr and his wife Helen Jane; other relatives and many friends.
