Marvin Butch Pedersen

Marvin Wilford Pedersen, �Butch�, was born on December 22, 1936 to Wilford and Erma (Turner) Pedersen in Walnut, Iowa. He attended Harlan High School.
On November 30, 1958, Butch was united in marriage to Irma Strandskov in Kimballton, Iowa. Three children were born to them: Lee, Michelle �Shelly�, and Kimberly �Kim�.
Butch ran a milk route for Crystal Springs Creamery in Kimballton for several years before driving a truck for different companies and was a salesman for Cox Feed and Purina. He transported clients for Wesco Corp. in Denison and always had a soft place in his heart for his clients and co-workers from Wesco. He was a Southwest Iowa Transit bus driver for ten years before he retired in October of 2011.
His hobbies included landscaping, genealogy, collecting Coca Cola memorabilia, and bird watching. He was particularly proud of his purple martins. Butch enjoyed the family gatherings and his nieces and nephews always looked forward to his annual Labor Day picnic. He also enjoyed keeping up with his grandkids� activities, and traveling, especially their winter trips to Arizona. Butch also enjoyed getting together with �the gang� on Friday nights. He also liked camping and fishing. Butch became an honorary member of the Harlan Volunteer Fire Department in 1983.
Butch died on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 having attained the age of seventy-six years, seven months, and twenty-two days. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Lou Nakama and Catherine �Cap� Fornstrom, brother Don Pedersen; and daughter-in-law Pam Pedersen.
He is survived by his wife of nearly fifty-five years Irma Pedersen of Harlan, Iowa; son Lee Pedersen of Omaha, Nebraska; daughters Shelly and her husband Terry Saunders of Harlan, Iowa and Kimberly Measner of Greeley, Colorado; eight grandchildren: Jessica Saunders (Russ McDaniel) of Omaha, Nebraska, Jenn Wagaman of Omaha, Nebraska, Ben Pedersen and his wife Leslie of Omaha, Nebraska, Jeff Saunders and his wife Jessica of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dan Pedersen and his wife Alicia of Harlan, Iowa, and McKayla, Caleb, and Caden Measner of Greeley, Colorado; four great-grandchildren: Alexi Wagaman of Omaha, Nebraska, Ethan McDaniel of Omaha, Nebraska, Kayden Wyatt of Harlan, Iowa, and Isabella Pedersen of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters Ruth and her husband Jim Keres of Florida and Judie Ahrenholtz of Harlan, Iowa; other family members and friends.
Pastor Steven Chellew officiated the 2:30 PM funeral service at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa on Saturday, August 17, 2013. Lisa Meyer was the accompanist. Honorary casket bearers were Jerry Wigness, Larry Gustason, Aaron Anliker, Verle Doonan, Mark Petersen, Ronnie Petersen, Lanny Benoit, and Clint Kienast. Serving as casket bearers were Jessica Saunders, Jennifer Wagman, Ben Pedersen, Jeff Saunders, Dan Pedersen, McKayla Measner, Caleb Measner, and Caden Measner. Interment was held at Harlan Cemetery.
