Marvin Wayne Hamilton, the son of Robert and Mildred Osborn Hamilton, was born on August 23, 1930 in Elk City, Nebraska. He attended grade school in Elk City and Omaha and high school at Omaha Tech until the eleventh grade. Marvin was inducted to the United States Army on August 27, 1951. He was stationed in Korea where he earned a service medal with two bronze service stars. He was honorably discharged July 15, 1953.
Marvin was united in marriage to Jenny Wallace on December 26, 1951 in Papillion, Nebraska. To this union seven children were born. Marvin worked at various construction jobs; drove milk truck and also worked at St. Mary's Body Shop. In 1953 they started farming near Underwood, Iowa, later moving to their home south of Avoca where he farmed until his retirement. Marvin enjoyed camping and fishing. He was mechanically inclined and often rebuilt his own tractors. He did the work on their home when they added on to it; even installing the furnace. He always had his sidekick next to him on the farm, his dog Makita.
Marvin died at the Avoca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Avoca, Iowa on Thursday, April 5, 2007 having attained the age of seventy-six years, seven months and thirteen days. He is preceded in death by his parents, twin grandsons, Jessie and Jerod Hamilton; one brother Wendel Hamilton and his daughter-in-law, Brenda Hamilton.
Survivors include his wife Jenny of rural Avoca, Iowa; his children: Cheryl and her husband Wes Jensen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Robert Hamilton of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Cindy and her husband Scott Knop of Walnut, Iowa; LeaAnn Van Horn of Underwood, Iowa; John Hamilton an his wife Kay of Crescent, Iowa; Ron Hamilton of Walnut, Iowa; Edwin Hamilton and his wife Colleen of Atlantic, Iowa; nineteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one sister, Gayle and her husband Larry Osburn of Omaha, Nebraska; sister-in-law Rose Marie Hamilton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 7, 2007 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Walnut, Iowa. Casket bearers were Jeremy Jensen, Brian Hamilton, Zachary Hamilton, Aaron Van Horn, Eric Van Horn, Tyler Hamilton, Garret Knop and Dillan Hamilton. Interment was in Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut.
