Marvin Anthony Miller was born on August 13, 1937 to Frank and Isabel (Weihs) Miller in Buck Grove, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance, Iowa.
After he graduated from high school, Marvin worked for the railroad until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served from February of 1956 to February of 1958. He returned home after receiving his honorable discharge and took a position at Squealer Feed.
On October 12, 1959, Marvin was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Griffin at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan. Four children were born to them: Jana, Scott, Joelle, and Jill.
After their marriage, Marvin went to work at Wilson Hybrid, now Remington Seed, where he was the plant manager for the last thirty of his forty-two years there. He retired in 2004.
Some of his favorite pastimes were playing cards and visiting with family and friends. His passion was his garden which brought happiness to him and all that enjoyed the fruits of his labor which he so generously shared.
He also enjoyed being outside to watch the birds and feed the squirrels. He was an amateur photographer and always had two cameras ready to take pictures.
Marvin died on Saturday, January 5, 2013 having attained the age of seventy-five years, four months, and twenty-three days. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Norma Bueltel and one grandchild.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years Pat Miller of Harlan, Iowa; children: Jana and her husband Rich Doré of Farmington, Missouri, Scott Miller of Chicago, Illinois, Joelle and her husband Darin Beezley of Washington, Iowa, and Jill and her husband Josh Galpin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren; brothers Don Miller and his wife Alice of Defiance, Iowa, Vernon Miller and his wife Mary of Irwin, Iowa, Eugene Miller and his wife Audrey of Omaha, Nebraska, Duane Miller and his wife Sue of Denison, Iowa, and Larry Miller of St. Augustine, Florida; sister Mary and her husband Joe Gross of Donahue, Iowa; other family members and friends.
