Mary Alice Peters

Mary Alice Peters, daughter of Michael and Monica (Graniewski) Filipowski, was born May 15, 1936 in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended school at Chandler View in Omaha, Nebraska.
On September 10, 1966, Mary was united in marriage to Clyde Peters at St. Francis of Assisi in Omaha. Two daughters were born to this union: Shelley and Sheryl. After the girls went to college she worked at Variety Distributors in Harlan for about 10 years.
Mary was a longtime member of St. Mary�s Catholic Church in Avoca. She was a devoted wife and kind and loving mother and grandmother. She loved baking, planting flowers and dancing to polka music. Her favorite times were spent with her family and playing with her grandchildren.
Mary died at her home in Avoca on Friday, May 17, 2013 having attained the age of seventy-seven years and two days. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her grandson, Austin Holtz and her sister, Loretta Filipowski and brother, John Filipowski.
She is survived by her husband, Clyde Peters, of Avoca, Iowa; her daughters: Shelley and her husband, Brett Holtz and Sheryl and her husband, Andy Benkis both of Omaha, Nebraska; her grandchildren: John, Joey, Jack, Emily and Nathan; her sisters: Patricia and her husband Bill Ceplecha and Kathleen and her husband Michael Yeshnowski both of Omaha; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Rev. Thomas Dooley celebrated the 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at St. Mary�s Catholic Church in Avoca, Iowa. Music was provided by Sondra Dea who accompanied the St. Mary�s Choir. Honorary casket bearer was Nathan Benkis. Burial was held in the Graceland Cemetery in Avoca with John Holtz, Joey Holtz, Jack Holtz, Scott Peters, Shane Armendariz and Shawn Peters serving as casket bearers.
