Mary Ann Paulsen, the daughter of Clarence and Ethel Wehland Walter, was born on February 13, 1928 in Walnut, Iowa and was the fourth of eight children. She attended Walnut schools and graduated in 1946 from Walnut high school.
On August 23, 1946 she was united in marriage to Wayne L. Paulsen and together they worked the land and raised their family. In 1982 they divorced and Mary returned to live in Walnut. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Dancing and cooking were two joys of her life - her cinnamon buns and pies were a work of art and her fried chicken was legendary.
Mary died at the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center in Avoca, Iowa on Sunday, September 28, 2008 following a stroke and several years of declining health. She had attained the age of eighty years, seven months and fifteen days. She is preceded in death by her parents; her son David; two sisters: Dorothy Corey and Clara Ginn; and one brother Bob Walter.
Survivors include her daughters: Janice and her husband Jim Irwin of Sunbury, Ohio and Jackie of Omaha, Nebraska; two grandsons: Heath Paulsen and his fianc� Gina Martinez of Omaha and Henry Paulsen and his wife Sue of Avoca; four granddaughters: Hayli, Saydi, Ava and MaKenna; three brothers: Don Walter and his wife Jo Jane; Charles Walter and his wife Gloria, all of Walnut, Iowa and Jim Walter of Atlantic, Iowa; one sister Marge and her husband Boyd Caster of Ottumwa, Iowa; besides numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church in Walnut, Iowa. Interment was held at Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut.
