Mary Elaine Christensen

Mary Elaine Christensen was born on January 11, 1926 to John and Alberta (Phillian) Joyce in Phoenix, Arizona. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Cathedral Catholic Church. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Phoenix, graduating with the Class of 1944. She continued her education at Arizona State University in Phoenix.
On June 9, 1973, Elaine was united in marriage to Donald E. Christensen in Harlan, Iowa. They were parents to five children: Kaye, Dena, Karen, Kathy, and Mike.
Elaine taught tap dance and ballet while living in Harlan. When they moved to Rockledge, Florida, she helped her husband in his new business. She loved to be in her garden, enjoyed reading, and being with her family.
She enjoyed fitness, exercise, and traveling. She traveled to many parts of the world including Europe, Russia, and China.
Elaine continued to live in Rockledge, Florida after her retirement in 1991. In 2009, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where she was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Elaine died on Saturday, May 11, 2013 having attained the age of eighty-seven years and four months. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Chuck Joyce.
She is survived by her daughter Dena Christensen of Omaha, Nebraska; step-daughters: Kaye and her husband Terry Lauritsen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Karen and her husband Mike Cooper of Persia, Iowa, and Kathy and her husband Doug Denny of Hudson, Ohio; step-son Mike Christensen of Carroll, Iowa; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
Rev. John Frost celebrated the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. Music was provided by Judy Rewerts accompanying Jan Rau. Inurnment was held at the Harlan Cemetery.
