Mary V. Jackson was born at Vail, Iowa, September 7, 1926, the daughter of Harry S. and Florence W. Duffey Allender. She was raised in Vail receiving her education at St. Ann Academy from which she graduated high school with the class of 1944. Following high school and, prior to her marriage, she was employed at Louie Etzel’s Meat Market in Vail.On July 8, 1948, Mary was united in marriage with Dee S. Jackson at St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail. Their union was blessed with two children: Mary Ann and Jim.They made their home in Carroll, Iowa, for seven years and Denison for four years before returning to Vail where they owned and operated a bar for many years. Most of Mary’s life was spent as a homemaker lovingly caring for her family. In her leisure time she enjoyed working crossword puzzles and spending time with family and friends.She was a life time member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Vail and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1960.Dee died March 10, 1992 and Mary remained at their home with her daughter Mary Ann.Mary died at her home in Vail Friday morning, May 27, 2016. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 89 years, 8 months and 1 day.Including her parents, Harry and Florence Allender and her husband Dee Jackson, Mary was also preceded in death by one sister, Enid Rogers, two brothers, Jim and Charles (Bud) Allender, sister-in-law Eileen Allender and brother-in-law Robert Rogers. Those remaining to cherish her memory include her two children: Mary Ann Jackson of Vail, Iowa, and Jim Jackson of Des Moines, Iowa, family friend Charles Young of Des Moines, other relatives and friends.Graveside memorial services and inurnment were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2016, with Father Paul Kelly officiating. Those serving as honorary pallbearers included Ralph Rogers, Tim Rogers, Robert Schroeder, Dean Nelson, Dick Pieper, Charles Young and Robbie Rogers.
