Mary Berniece Masur, daughter of Frank and Margaret (Denning) Green, was born on February 19, 1936 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Neola, Iowa. Mary also attended school at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Neola, graduating in 1955. After high school, Mary worked for a short time as a secretary at Boy’s Town in Omaha, Nebraska and as a nurses aid in the Council Bluffs area.

In 1983, Arthur Masur came to Iowa to visit his old Army buddy, Leo Hahn. While visiting Leo and his wife Rosemary, a trip was planned to see the famous Grotto in West Bend Iowa. Rosemary invited her sister Mary to tag along.

Mary and Arthur began a correspondence after he returned to Texas and after a short courtship the two were united in marriage on October 21, 1983 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. After their marriage, they made their home in Lockhart, Texas. In May of 2009, they moved to Harlan, Iowa and this has been their home since.

Mary died on November 28, 2014 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan having attained the age of seventy-eight years, nine months and nine days. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband Art. She is survived by her sister Rosemary and her husband Leo Hahn of Earling, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
