Mary Alice O'Bryan
July 25, 1938 — January 15, 2018
Mary Alice Sweeney, daughter of Clarence and Lucille Sweeney, was born on July 25, 1938 on a century farm in Sutherland, Iowa. She received her early education in the grade schools and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1956. She attended St. Joseph’s nursing school and received her RN in 1959.
Mary was united in marriage to Richard O’Bryan in October of 1959 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Dick and Mary moved to Harlan, Iowa in 1967 with their three children. She was employed at the Harlan’s Doctor Clinic as an RN for over 20 years.
Mary was a member of the hospital auxiliary and a volunteer for Myrtue Memorial Hospice. She has been a 50 year plus member of St. Michael’s Church.
Mary passed away under hospice care at Elm Crest on Monday, January 15, 2018, at the age of 79. She was preceded in death by her parents, son John Patrick O’Bryan, and sister-in-law Judy Sweeney.
She is survived by her husband Dick O’Bryan of Harlan, Iowa; her son Tim and his wife Carol O’Bryan of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter Maureen and her husband Joe Bourland of Kohler, Wisconsin; son Mike and his wife Susann O’Bryan of San Clemente, California; seven grandchildren: Jayna, John, Daniel, and Elizabeth Mary O’Bryan, Michael, Julia, and Matthew Bourland; as well as other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary's honor may be made to Myrtue Medical Center Hospice.
