Mary Lavonne Ploen, daughter of Frank Siebels and Lillie Siebels Flemming, was born on May 23, 1928 in Minden, Iowa. She graduated from Minden High School.

On September 4, 1947, Mary was united in marriage to Dale Robert Ploen at the Minden Congregational Church in Minden, Iowa. To this union, three children were born: Karen Sue, Patricia Kay and Robert Dale.

After their marriage, Mary and Dale farmed near Walnut, Iowa. After retiring in 1988, Mary and Dale moved to Belgrade, Montana where they built their home and enjoyed the Montana mountains. They returned to Iowa in 2007 and made their home in Pella and Knoxville.

Mary was a partner to Dale in the truest sense when it came to their farm. Mary helped plow hundreds of acres, hauled tons of grain and cooked thousands of meals over 45 years of farming. She was always there to support her children with school, church and community activities. Mary was at her best with Dale - they danced to their own ‘swing-step’ over 68 years of marriage. Mary’s life was filled with the joy of her grandchildren. Their fondest memories abound from making animal pancakes to jumping on beds and reading stories. Mary loved her flower gardens. She also spent years researching and writing Dale and Mary’s family histories. Mary enjoyed coffee time with her family and friends. She always told her children that she had a good life and was most proud of the ‘togetherness’ we share as a family.

Mary died on October 31, 2021 at the Hearthstone, a Ministry of WesleyLife in Pella, Iowa at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 8 days. She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, her brother Gerald Siebels and a great granddaughter, Kyah.

She is survived by her children Karen (Ed) Soens of San Diego, California; Patricia Ebert of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Robert Ploen of Bozeman, Montana; six grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren.

Mary was loved and will forever be missed.
