Mary E. Poepsel

Mary Ellen Poepsel was born on December 23, 1970 to James and Edna (Mertens) Poepsel in Harlan, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan and attended grade school at St. Michael’s. She graduated from Harlan Community High School with the Class of 1989 and went on to graduate from Capital School of Beauty in 1990.
When Mary Ellen wasn’t making people more beautiful, she enjoyed being with her family and going camping. Sitting around the bonfire was something she could never get enough of. She liked to accompany her fiancé on the golf course, but only if she got to drive the cart!
She loved to sing and go to concerts with her friends. Her favorite groups were REO Speedwagon, Cat Stevens, and especially the Beatles. She had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews and her cats, Larry and Missy.
Mary Ellen worked doing what she loved right up until her death on Sunday, January 18, 2015, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. She had attained the age of forty-four years and twenty-six days. She was preceded in death by her father James Peopsel, aunt Lorraine Mertens, and grandparents Henry and Ellen Mertens and Dr. Frank and Kathryn Poepsel.
She is survived by her mother Edna Poepsel of Harlan, Iowa; fiancé Frank Rodriguez of Omaha, Nebraska; brothers and sisters: Patricia and her husband Richard Kemp of Omaha, Nebraska, Kathryn and her husband Matt Reed of Spring, Texas, James Poepsel and his wife Linda of Houston, Texas, Susan and her husband Forrest Westbrook of Spring, Texas, Francis Poepsel of Council Bluffs, Iowa, John Poepsel of Katy, Texas, and Sara Poepsel Miller of Harlan, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
