Mary Jean Rasmussen

Mary Jean Rasmussen was born in Denison, Iowa, October 28, 1933, the daughter of Lacey Sr. and Mary Eleanor Slater North. She was raised on the farm in East Boyer Township and received her education in the Denison Public Schools from which she graduated high school.On November 2, 1951, Mary Jean was united in marriage with Francis Soren Rasmussen at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, Iowa. Their union was blessed with two sons, Rick and Roger. They made their home on a farm south of Vail, purchasing their own farm in 1958. Mary Jean was a busy farm wife and mother, lovingly caring for her family.Francis died June 4, 1996 and, the following year, Mary Jean moved to Denison where she was employed in the Hy-Vee Deli for a number of years. Her retirement years allowed her more time to enjoy her hobbies and interests of cooking, reading and her cats. Some of her most cherished times were those spent with her grandchildren.She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Denison, Iowa and the United Presbyterian Women.In March of 2011, Mary Jean moved to Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison and it was there her death occurred Saturday evening June 18, 2016. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 82 years, 7 months and 20 days.Including her parents and husband, Mary Jean was also preceded in death by one brother: Lacey Craig North, Jr. and three sisters: Carolyn Kay North, Lillian Celinda North and Georgia “Bibs” Heckmann.Those remaining to cherish her memory include 2 sons: Rick Rasmussen of Denison, Iowa and Roger (Nancy) Rasmussen of Vail, Iowa; 3 granddaughters: Jessie Rasmussen of Vail, Iowa, Melissa (Jack) Olberding of Carroll, Iowa, and Whitney (Verlyn) Richardson of Audubon, Iowa; 3 great grandchildren: Ryan Rustvold, Camdyn Olberding, and Caylee Olberding, all of Carroll, Iowa; sisters: Marilyn Jean (Albert) Glienke of Aurelia, Iowa, Gladys North of Denison, Iowa and Frances Kay Brewster of Leavenworth, Kansas; sister-in-law, Eunice McCollough of Denison, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Richard Francis officiating. Music for the service included recorded vocal selections of “In the Garden” and “Amazing Grace”. Pallbearers included Dwight Segebart, Steve McCollough, Ryan Segebart, Blake Dieber, Doug Gronau and Mark Henkel. Interment was at the Vail Cemetery, Vail, Iowa. The Pfannebecker funeral Home, www.pfannebecker.com , Denison, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements where a visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2016.
