Mary Agnes Schaben was born January 30, 1919 in Panama, Iowa to Peter and Mary (Stoll) Willmes. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s in Panama. Mag went to grade school and high school at St. Mary’s, graduating with the class of 1936.

Mag worked at Zimmerman’s Store in Panama for several years. She also worked as a bullet inspector at a munitions plant near Des Moines, Iowa during WWII. After the war, she worked at a Penny’s store in Des Moines.

Mag married Cletus “Blondie” Schaben on August 29, 1952 at St. Mary’s in Panama. The two made their home in Earling, Iowa, and she became a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Mag loved to sew and belonged to the church quilting circle. She also enjoyed gardening and was always ready for a game of cards.

Mag passed away on December 15, 2017 in Harlan, Iowa, attaining the age of 98 years, 10 months, and 15 days. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Blondie Schaben; siblings Samuel Willmes, Dorothy Zimmerman, Caroline Stessman, Sara Mischo, Cecilia Willmes, Marcella Willmes, and Helen Willmes.

She is survived by nephew Dave (Janis) Stessman of Defiance, IA; great-niece Patty (Tom) Myers of Earling, IA; her care giver and best friend, Darlene White, of Pisgah, IA; and many, many other nieces, nephews, and friends.
