Mary Louise (Kohles) Schimerowski was born May 29, 1932 in Earling, Iowa to Arthur and Irene (Rodgers) Kohles. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Earling and attended a year of college in Milwaukee, WI. She was a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Church.

Mary Lou married James Schimerowski June 21, 1952 at St. Joseph’s and the couple traveled to many places while James was in the Navy, living in Hawaii and Corpus Christi, TX. They had seven children: James, Mary Kay, JoAnne, Michael, Thomas, Robert, and David. The family settled back in Earling after James’ discharge from the navy.

After retiring from over 25 years farming they moved to Earling. She catered many weddings and funerals for the St. Joseph’s parish. She was active in the community by being a member of the Earling city council and also served two terms as mayor. She was a fabulous cook and many people sought her recipes. Mary Lou loved flowers, knitting and reading. She also enjoyed traveling, especially if it was to visit her children and grandchildren. Mary Lou loved music and for many years played the piano for the residents of Little Flower Haven . She had an amazing sense of humor. Her smile and her twinkling blue eyes will be greatly missed.

Mary Lou passed away on Friday, January 5, 2017 in Denison, Iowa, attaining the age of 85 years, 7 months, and 7 days. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Schimerowski; grandson Daniel Schimerowski; and brother Rodger Kohles.

Left to cherish her memory are her children James (Debbie) Schimerowski of Earling, IA; Mary Kay (Jerome) Michels of Minden, IA; JoAnne (Rev. Brian) Arnold of Upper Sandusky, OH; Michael (Lee) Schimerowski of Earling, IA; Thomas (Randa) Schimerowski of Great Falls, MT; Robert (Julie Wells) Schimerowski of Atwater, MN; David (Martina) Schimerowski of Lake Elmo, MN; 21 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brother Ronald (Maryann) Kohles of Omaha, NE; sister-in-law Betty Kohles of O’Fallon, MO; brother-in-law Larry Schimerowski of Earling, IA; many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
