Mavis Lucille Johnston, daughter of James E. Wangler and Florence Lena (Schultz) Wangler was born December 27, 1937 in Kiron, Iowa. She attended Odebolt School through the 4th grade and Kiron Public School 5th through 12th grade where she was active in basketball and highschool plays. She was known to be quite a ham. She graduated from Kiron Public School with the class of 1955. Following graduation she worked at Mutual of Omaha for 3 years.
On February 28, 1959, Mavis was united in marriage to Richard Donovan Johnston at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron, Iowa. To this union two children were born: Mark and Matt. Mavis was a devoted mother and farmer’s wife.
Mavis was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron, where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the choir, and the Ladies Group where she was president at one time. She could write sermons and memorials.
Following farm retirement she started working at Morningside Care Center in Ida Grove, Iowa and retired after 27 years. In retirement she enjoyed reading and taking life easy. She loved her farm cats, which was evident in clothes and other items. She loved her family and taking care of them. She enjoyed living like a queen in the house that she and Richard built in 2010, this is where she wanted to stay until the end.
Preceding her in death are: her parents James and Florence Wangler; her husband Richard Johnston; and her brother Alan Wangler.
Survivors include: two sons Mark and Matt Johnston both of Kiron; sister Delores Wangler of Kiron; and an aunt Emeline Gustafson of Kiron. Many other relatives and friends.
