Max Eugene Bornholdt, son of Orville and Margaret (Brink) Bornholdt, was born April 22, 1939 in Audubon County, Iowa. He was baptized in the Presbyterian Church. He attended country school for three years until going to school in Walnut, Iowa. He was a state qualifier in track.
On February 14, 1960, Max was united in marriage to Joan Armstrong at Avondale Church in Adair County, Iowa. Two children were born: Jeff and Julie. Max farmed north of Walnut and worked for a few years at the Super 8 Motel in Walnut, while continuing to farm.
Max loved going to auctions, farm sales, and collecting toy machinery and farm machinery. He also loved playing the lottery, going to coffee to listen to the news of the day. During summer months, Max enjoyed spending Saturday evenings at the Shelby County Speedway. His hobbies included mowing lawns (his own and everyone else’s). He also enjoyed crafting small buildings out of wood.
Max died at his home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 21, 2020, attaining the age of eighty years, nine months, and thirty days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Carl Bornholdt, Helen Marxen, Janis Anderson, Ross Bornholdt, Arlin Bornholdt, Everette Bornholdt, and Donald Bornholdt.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years Joan Bornholdt of Avoca, Iowa; son Jeff Bornholdt of Avoca, Iowa; daughter Julie and her husband Chuck Gross of Walnut, Iowa; grandchildren Tom Gross of Walnut, Iowa; Britney and her husband Dave Archibald of Walnut, Iowa; great grandchildren Reese and Easton Archibald; siblings Robert Bornholdt and his wife Judy of Kimballton, Iowa; Darlene and her husband Dewey Hess of Harlan, Iowa; sisters-in-law Mickie Bornholdt of Atlantic, Iowa; Jean Bornholdt of Walnut, Iowa; Janet Bornholdt of Atlantic, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
