Maxine Ruth Sick was born on April 4, 1937, to Ejner and Velma Dunnington Sorensen near the picturesque town of Walnut, Iowa. She grew up in a warm and loving household, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the strong values of her family. Maxine's childhood was filled with joyous moments and close-knit family gatherings, creating cherished memories that would shape her life.
As a young girl, Maxine found strength and solace in her faith, attending the Shelby Lutheran Church in Shelby, Iowa. Her dedication to her spiritual beliefs guided her throughout life, shaping her into a woman of compassion and kindness.
After spending most of her years at Shelby-Tennant High School, Maxine moved to Wheat Ridge, Colorado to finish her highschool education and graduate. In the twists and turns of life, Maxine's path led her to the love of her life, Wilbert Sick. Their serendipitous meeting blossomed into a beautiful relationship, and on June 12, 1955, they were united in marriage in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Together, they embraced the joys and challenges that life presented, building a strong foundation of love and support.
As the years passed, Maxine and Wilbert's love grew deeper as they welcomed the blessings of parenthood. They were blessed with three children: Brion, Wade and Tammy. Their home was filled with laughter and the joy of family bonds. Tragically, their beloved son Brion K. Sick departed this world before Maxine, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love.
For many years, Maxine enjoyed the role of a dedicated stay-at-home mom. Her love for her children knew no bounds. She poured her heart and soul into nurturing them, instilling in them the same values of love, compassion, and integrity that she lived by.
Maxine later embarked on a journey to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse. She attended Iowa Western Community College, where she diligently studied to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Her commitment to caring for others and her genuine empathy made her a highly respected and beloved nurse throughout her career at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa.
Maxine had a passion for quilting, and her skilled hands created masterpieces of love and artistry. Each quilt she crafted was a testament to her creativity and dedication, and her creations were treasured by her family and friends, carrying with them the warmth and love of her embrace.
As technology advanced, Maxine embraced social media as a way to stay connected with her growing family. She delighted in keeping up with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, celebrating their milestones and sharing in their joys and accomplishments. Maxine found joy in the simple pleasures of life, and one of her favorite pastimes was going for walks. Whether through the trails of a national park or the tranquility of a nearby nature path, she found peace and solace in the embrace of nature's beauty.
On Monday, July 24, 2023, Maxine Ruth Sick peacefully passed away at her home, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of love and compassion. She was welcomed into eternity by her parents, Ejner and Velma Sorenson, and her beloved son, Brion Sick.
